Staff, students and the wider St Andrews community are invited to make a splash to mark International Women’s Day 2026 by taking part in a morning ‘dook’ to raise funds for Fife Women’s Aid.

This year’s Dook will take place on Friday 6 March, with everyone meeting at the slipway entrance to East Sands just before 8am. Whether you’d prefer to run into the water and out again as fast as you can, or you’re a dedicated wild swimmer keen to make the most of the chilly start, everyone is welcome.

Now in its third year, the Dook is organised by Victoria Herd and Lindsey Alexander from the Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs team. Over the past two years, the event has raised just over £1,200 for Fife Women’s Aid, supporting their work with women and children affected by domestic abuse. This year, we hope to raise even more.

As an added incentive, Accommodation, Conferences, and Events (ACE) colleagues will provide free tea or coffee and a breakfast roll to everyone who registers – the perfect way to warm up afterwards.

To sign-up, visit the Eventbrite page, St Andrews International Women’s Day Dook 2026, and complete the form with your name, email address and breakfast roll option. Then head to the JustGiving page to make your suggested £10 donation (or whatever you can afford). Please remember to clearly state your name so we know you have paid.

All proceeds from the Dook will go directly to Fife Women’s Aid to support their work with women and children locally who are affected by domestic abuse.

And whether you’re taking part in the dook or not St Andrews staff can also take advantage of 75% off the usual price of a spot at St Andrews Seaside sauna, conveniently situated a bit further along the East Sands beach, anytime that day.

The sauna will be open and available to book from 7am on Friday 6 March and any St Andrews staff making use of the discount are welcome to enjoy it without donating to charity. However, if they do wish to make a donation, they can make it to Fife Women’s Aid, or the charity support by St Andrews Seaside Sauna on IWD, The Menopause Charity.

To book please use your St Andrews email address and quote IWD-USTASTAFF.
